Our current staff of ten consists of three principals, Susan Brady, Sara Demel, and Bruce Taylor. There is also one senior project manager, four designers, as well as two administrative personnel. The combined staff experience covers architectural lighting design and related disciplines including environmental design, interior design, architecture, industrial design, and electrical engineering.

From architecture to interiors, historic to contemporary, Susan Brady’s lighting portfolio reveals awareness to architecture and design which has its roots in her environmental design background. In 1994 with SBLD Studio, Susan realized her dream of starting her own architectural lighting design practice. Tackling the most complicated projects with sensitivity, Susan’s three decade collection of notable work includes The New York Stock Exchange, The New York Times and The Washington Post, Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, Nashville Schemerhorn Symphony Concert Hall and Las Vegas Smith Center for Performing Arts, USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center and JFK International Arrivals Terminal, Syracuse University, West Point and Vanderbilt Universities, Mount Sinai, Memorial Sloane Kettering and North Shore LIJ Medical Centers. With 26 years as President, Susan is proud of both the breadth of the firm’s diverse portfolio and the talented team of design professionals that make up SBLD Studio.

Over the past 17 years, Sara has become a vital member of the SBLD Studio leadership team overseeing numerous in-house project teams. She handles all aspects of a project from conceptual design through installation. Sara has honed her design and project management skills, deftly keeping her projects on schedule and in budget. She is a master at coordinating the technical aspects of lighting and has a vast knowledge of the intricacies of fixture details as they relate to architectural materials.  Most recently completed projects include offices for The Washington Post, Arnold & Porter LLP and Intelsat.

Bruce Taylor, LC

Bruce is one of SBLD’s key senior staff members, having been with SBLD for over 13 years, he has spearheaded many large-scale projects. Such as the IMF Headquarters in Washington DC, and The USTA Billy Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. Bruce has a wide and varied lighting design portfolio including projects types ranging from educational, healthcare, hospitality and corporate to sporting venues, transportation, and residential high-rise projects.  Through his projects, he has developed a specialty for exterior and façade lighting. Bruce’s growing experience with domestic and international projects as well as his technical lighting design knowledge and strong work ethic are superior qualities that he brings to a project.  Bruce is currently working on Newark-Liberty International Terminal 1 opening in 2021.
